For some artists and celebrities, their culture plays a significant part in what they do. They believe that their chosen platforms, whether stage plays, concerts, movies, or TV shows, serve as mediums where they can share their culture with their loyal fans.
One example is Turkish actor Alican Akman. Born in Izmir, Turkey, Alican has been acting for twelve years now because he knew that it’s his passion, and appearing in performances felt more like a hobby than work.
He performed in various plays written by Shakespeare, Çehov, and Moliere. At 21, he also performed in several plays directed by famous Turkish director Onur Unlu. Alican also played roles in the movies Sen Aydinlatirsin Geceyi and Itirazim Var, which were also directed by Unlu.
Both movies received the prestigious Altin Portakal movie awards in Turkey. The success of the projects he was a part of led him to book an important role in the television series Ben de Ozledim.
Eventually, Akman’s gained recognition as his name became well-known in the Turkish film industry. He saw this improvement as a sign that it was time to make a jump to the film capital of the world, Hollywood.
Without any hesitation, the Turkish actor packed his bags and went to Los Angeles, where he studied in the most prestigious schools such as Eric Morris and Ivana Chubbuck, the school that trained some of the best-known actors in the world such as Brad Pitt and Halle Berry.
However, Alican’s main goal in traveling to Hollywood is to introduce his culture and country’s movies to moviegoers and critics in America. He also wants to be the first famous Turkish actor and star in Turkish American partnership movies.
Alican recently landed a role in a Turkish-American co-production romcom series that will air on Netflix. He also has another project as he stars in an upcoming American movie where he plays a Turkish character.
Yet aside from showing what he can do as an actor, Alican also knows the importance of the internet and social media platforms in today’s world. He believes that as an actor, it’s important to create content and put it out there.
The actor is presently focused on creating videos for his YouTube channel where he shows his Turkish followers the lifestyle in Los Angeles as well as entices those from the area to watch his projects and learn more about Turkish culture as he initially intended.
